Noon.
The image is no longer the thing. The mirror mirrors half of what is there.
Beckett does something different…
A stage direction precedes an action. Conversely, an action can precede a stage direction. Andy sits. Thus, Andy sits. Or Andy sits. Thus, Andy does not sit. And he is free to think of whatever. He only has to act according to the play but now is no longer part of the play. He abandons his role. So, does the play or actor precede the other, for the order produces a different effect and thing.
I say that I’m not the entire self. Here’s an example.
I was at Published and had to pee. The washrooms were downstairs. They were single stalls. I went in and didn’t lock the door. As I was peeing, a girl came in and I made a noise and she said sorry. Then I apologized too. I went back to my table and as I explained this to Michelle, she laughed. Then I realized that if I saw her through the mirror, she must have also seen me through the mirror. Well, she could have. It’s not like she has to. But assuming that she did, I was a mere reflection. From her perspective, I never existed. I was only an image. She would have never seen the real thing, whatever that is… It was a kind of… well, distortion. I don’t know but I was diminished and for a moment, something pale simmered within me…
